“Pedalăm în siguranță”: a camp for children with hearing loss

Four days on bicycles in Mehedinți, in July 2025, for the children the association had given hearing aids.
From 20 to 23 July 2025, the Fiți Buni Association took to Ponoarele, in Mehedinți County, the children with hearing loss to whom it had given hearing aids, with Audionova.
They cycled on marked, safe routes, went through the Băluța Gorge and saw God’s Bridge, Ponoarele Cave, the Lilac Forest and Lake Zaton, stopping at the churches and monasteries of the area.
Nicoleta Iagăru wrote the project, one of the 100 winners of Pepco Romania’s Pepcolandia 2025 programme. In her words: “The children with hearing loss showed us that joy does not need many words.” And: “We wanted to give them a place where they would be safe and could discover themselves.”
The camp would not have happened, she writes, without Father Ion Iagăru, “the initiator of the activities and a steadfast support for these wonderful children”.
